U.K. Film Regulation
A post about film regulation in the UK and an explanation of the BBFC’s role in it
The BBFC or the British Board of Film Classification are an organisation who regulate film ratings in the U.K. , currently they manage the classification and censorship of films in the U.K. which are exhibited at theatres and video works.
This classification is split into 6 categories: U, PG, 12A, 12, 15 and 18
New technology has created some issues with classification though, due to openly available content through platforms such as YouTube or the internet archive an example of this could be seen through how a child could easily search up and even watch tons of 18 rated films easily just through a device such as an iPad, this creates a lot of issues for classification as restrictions need to be improved through features such as child proof questions or need for identification such as a drivers license which would improve restrictions in the modern day.
